Welcome to another edition of SFCQ1's online Newsletter

Me and my family had a few things going on in May and June that I wanted to tell you guys about.
first off My son, Lt. Jacob Barker, Graduated from a 4 year term at Cedarville Christian College
and got his Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering. GRATZ Jake.

Lt. Jacob Barker

My Daughter (Danielle), my wife (Debbie) and I (Brad) went to Washington DC with Danielle's Girl Scout troop.
We had a blast. We seen most of the sights on this 6 day trip but I think Danielle mainly like the hotel pool the
The trip itself however was for the Girl Scouts of America "Rock the Mall" event. Their were 200 thousand Girl Scouts
at the event from all over the country. Most of them where disappointed though when they found out that "The Mall"
in Washington DC was not an actual shopping mall but a Huge empty park that stretched about a half mile long
and about a block wide which was filled with Girl Scouts from end to end and very few trees on this hot 98
degree day. Our day there at the event consisted of walking for an hour and a half then waiting in line for water
for 2 hours and then sitting on the lawn for an hour then we said enough with this and went back to the hotel for a swim.

Happenings in the Fleet:

FOR second quarter running, the First Quarter Outstanding Service Award was presented in part, to Capt. Rose Compton, USS Mighty Mississippi (right), by FCPT JM Olson, (left). USS Celestria's Capt. JAMES Chen shares this quarter's award, both SFC Chapters showing diligent regular reportage, ongoing & successful event/meeting activities, and meritorious community service programs in action locally. Congrats to both awardees!

This picture shows LTjgs Gunn and Parks receiving a ship award "The Sword of Qo'noS" certificate and medal on May 8th 2012 at our ship meeting.

For outstanding community service by assisting in the recovery of a dangerous weapon, and discarded ammunition, during highway clean up on April 15th, 2012.

The USS Gorkon spring highway clean up in April turned out to be more than just picking up 30 bags of trash. Ltjg Michael Parks along with Ltjg Shannon Gunn were surprised when they found a box of live ammunition during their clean up along highway 67/Pendleton Pike. They notified the Captain and First Officer who secured the ammunition to give to the police for disposal.
